Poetry is and always should be a force. Something that evokes response and demands attention. Poetry that fails to connect you with purpose is insufficient and unnecessary. There is room for the grandiose and the subtle within this genre, but the utility of poetry is not to paint mental murals but to mobilize us.

Words that speak of heartbreak should provide a mirror with which to alarm us of the pooling waters of depression that look to sneakily overtake our spirits. Couplets that explore love’s temperature should give breath to languages only understood by our significant other. This is the purpose of poetry — to help us interpret the world so that we may be better within our natural state.

So, with that manifest, I write. And though my words may spiral through a fiber optic abyss, I hope by chance that they resonate with you.
